Director, Design & Construction Project Support - (200000EP)
University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Director of Design and Construction Project Support. The Director of Project Support position for the Design & Construction team will manage and coordinate all support efforts for renovation and new construction projects, including overseeing the Design Review team, the Commissioning and Project Inspection teams, Project Archives and the Project Controls team. As a senior leader within the department, this position is a resource for all staff that focuses on solutions to extensive critical challenges that face construction projects. This position implements sustainable business practices and standard operating procedures with an inclusive approach.

PRIMARY DUTIES: * Develops and implements policies, procedures and best practices within Design Review, Commissioning, Inspection, Archives and Project Controls. * Develop, disseminate, and approve standard operating procedures, guidelines, policies, processes, protocols and training programs for operation and compliance within the department. * Oversee project management software, eBuilder, effectiveness and technology adoption within the department. * Represents the department when interfacing with Construction and Facilities Procurement, Central Administrative Support Services and other departments across campus. * Responsible for the Design and Construction department budget and fiscal planning. * Guide, challenge, and motivate staff to achieve long-term goals and plans. Work with leadership on short- and long-term critical project issues, plans, and strategic goals. * Create a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve department's goals. Management and oversight of staff, including hiring, training, managing, performance assessment, and mentoring of supervisors, professionals, and support staff. Initiates, influences, and creates development opportunities for staff. * Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters preferred.
Experience: Twelve (12) years of experience in project design, management, implementation, and assessment; and construction of institutional or commercial building projects
Supervisory Experience: Four (4) years of direct management and supervision of recruitment, training, and professional development of staff. Directly responsible for the performance of management and staff.
Certification/Licensure: State of Maryland Professional Engineer or Architect licensure preferred. Project Management Institute PMP or CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM) required, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Other: Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of position requirements. Thorough knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to support a mission and strategic vision. Instructional, training, and team building skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships. Skill in consultation and change management.
