The Division of Cancer Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health is recruiting for a faculty position in cancer genetic epidemiology at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The successful applicant also will be a member of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center's Population Science Program.
Candidates should have a PhD/ScD in epidemiology, genetics or a closely related field or a MD with demonstrated evidence of scholarly research in genetic epidemiology and potential to obtain extramural research funding. Individuals with expertise conducting epidemiologic research on genetic contributions to the etiology and/or outcomes of infectious or hormonally-related cancers are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition to developing an independent research program, the incumbent will mentor graduate students in epidemiology, participate in teaching and contribute to the department's and school's programs through professional service.
The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health is located in the School of Medicine on the vibrant University of Maryland Baltimore campus in West Baltimore near the Inner Harbor. The neighborhood is ethnically and racially diverse, providing opportunities to conduct research in minority health and health disparities. Academic affiliations in Nigeria and across Africa promote research in global health.
Faculty in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health include nationally and internationally recognized experts in epidemiology, biostatistics and bioinformatics. Many have appointments in highly acclaimed institutes on campus including the Institute for Genome Sciences, the Institute of Human Virology and the Institute for Global Health, while others have appointments at the University of Maryland School of Public Health located nearby in College Park. Multidisciplinary collaborations among faculty in population, basic and clinical science across the University System of Maryland are strongly encouraged.
