Post-doctoral research position in Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition, University of Maryland, Baltimore
A full time Post-Doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Liqing Yu in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore as of March 1, 2020 (until filled). An MD, PhD or MD/PhD scientist is sought to study the role of lipid metabolism in the pathogenesis of common metabolic diseases associated with obesity, such as insulin resistance, fatty liver, and cardiovascular abnormalities. Using genetically engineered mouse models, the Yu lab has shown that brown adipose tissue lipid droplet lipolysis critically regulates white adipose tissue browning and adipose innervation. The major goal of the study is to molecularly define how lipid droplet lipolysis regulates metabolic/bioenergetic fuel selection and signaling pathways in adipocytes as well as how adipose lipolysis communicates with other organs including the central nervous system to maintain whole-body thermogenesis, energy balance, and metabolic health. The post-doc will need to perform experiments involving techniques in molecular and cell biology, single cell technologies, lipid analysis, murine models of diseases, animal physiology, metabolic phenotyping of mice, and atherosclerosis. Prior experience in at least some of these techniques is required. Candidates should be highly motivated, be able to work independently, have critical thinking abilities, and good written and oral English communication skills.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in life science or M.D., and have research background in obesity/insulin resistance/diabetes, fatty liver disease, and/or cardiovascular disease.
If interested, please email a CV, a short statement of research interests, and the names and contact information for three references to Liqing Yu at Email: Lyu@som.umaryland.edu
