The Director of Development (DOD) will function within University-wide development and alumni relations leveraging central resources and building collaborative relationships to drive major gift fund raising.. The DOD will report to the Senior Executive Director of Development. S/He is responsible for individual major gift fundraising ($100K+), which includes identifying, qualifying and soliciting prospects, stewarding donors, and helping manage the major gifts pipeline for SSOE.
This position supervises the SSOE Director of Constituent Relations and Office Manager. This position is responsible for the tracking and reporting of fund raising totals for SSOE. S/He will be a lead partner with Sr. Executive Director, responsible for direct reporting to the Dean, and Department Chairs on strategic priorities in the absence of the Senior Executive Director. This position will serve as the primary liaison to the central gift team for both SSOE, assisting with strategy and logistics
The DOD must possess and demonstrate initiative and leadership; demonstrate a track record of success in securing major gifts ($100K+); superior oral and written skills with an ability to persuade; strong organizational skills; and an exceptional ability to communicate with a variety of University alumni, donors, faculty, staff, senior leadership, and friends. Knowledge of and experience with the engineering profession and the mission of engineering schools and the ability to translate that mission in ways that engage and inspire donors and alumni is strongly preferred.
This position requires regular travel and occasional evening and weekend work.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred. 7 years experience with minimum of five years in major gifts fund raising, with minimum of three years of experience within an academic setting, preferably within a doctoral granting institution. Has at least one year experience reporting directly to a Dean or unit administrator.
