The Provost’s Office at the United States Naval Academy invites applications for the APAA position beginning as early as June 2020. The successful candidate will serve as part of the Provost's staff, with responsibility for issues encompassing all curricular matters, including academic schedule planning and execution, majors program management, majors and core course offerings year-round, final examination scheduling and execution, and classroom utilization and midshipman accountability. In addition, the APAA is the chair of the Advisory Board and the Majors Assignment Review Board, and is the principal agent of the Provost in the operation of the Academic Board. The APAA is responsible for the academic advisory programs for the freshman (plebe) year, overseas exchange students, and service academy exchange students. The APAA is the primary academic liaison with the Information Technology and Services Department, works closely with the Deputy Commandant on student affairs, and directly supervises; the Director of Academic Advising, the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence, the Director of Plebe Programs, and the Registrar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as supervisor of the Director of Academic Advising, the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence (the “AcCenter”), the Director of Plebe Programs, and the Registrar
Coordinate with Faculty Senate, Deans, Department Chairs, and the Deputy Commandant to develop academic calendars, majors and core course offerings, final examinations and classroom management
Oversee and implement student scheduling
Act as registrar for summer school programs
Chair the Advisory Board and the Majors Assignment Review Board
Act as the principal agent of the Provost in the operation of the Academic Board
Oversee all USNA and ACDEAN instructions and notices applicable to the academic program
Be responsible for all academic advising and mentoring for midshipmen resident at the Naval Academy or studying elsewhere
Monitor grade submissions and trends, MAPRs, and classroom accountability
Coordinate with the Deputy Commandant to address day to day student affairs as well as strategic planning impacting student time and activities
Coordinate with the Information Technology and Services Division relating to technology planning and implementation with respect to the Provost’s Office, including acting as Webmaster for the Provost and the academic catalog available on both the intranet and internet
This is a federal excepted service position. Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
