OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW Jefferson College invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and CAO, reporting directly to the incoming president and serving as the institutional leader in her absence. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, visionary, and collaborative leader who has a passion for student success and possesses the knowledge and skills required to lead the instruction, academic support, enrollment, and student services areas of Jefferson College. In support of the college’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan, the Provost brings visionary and strategic leadership to develop and review all instructional programs and services, facilitate and support continued development of innovative teaching practices, enhance and promote student success initiatives, and enrich the campus life experience. The Provost will also foster an environment that supports effective use of data in decision-making, appreciates diversity and inclusion in teaching and learning, values the attainment of excellence in all aspects of the collegiate experience, and embodies openness, inclusion, collaboration, and teamwork. As a key member of the executive team, the Provost, alongside the President, ensures a coordinated and cohesive institutional approach to academic and organizational excellence, including a commitment to the institution’s Strategic Plan and Guided Pathways. (Please note: although the incoming president is new to this role, she has been with Jefferson College since 2007, serving most recently as dean of career and technical education)
EXPECTATIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES • Ensure the development of high-quality academic/transfer and career programs with market relevance and flexible delivery designed for optimized access, excellent student learning and transfer outcomes, and workforce employment, including the evaluation of existing programs. • Ensure academic standards of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and other external accrediting agencies are regularly monitored and met; maintain academic excellence and integrity within all course and program offerings, while promoting innovation, engagement, collaboration, and accountability. • Work collaboratively with all areas of the college to deliver seamless services, recruit students, and develop college programs and curricula; and ensure periodic comprehensive evaluation of all programs and conduct outcome reviews including program effectiveness/impact, utilization and satisfaction. • Oversee the development of student services and work collaboratively to implement the strategic enrollment management plan that focuses on recruitment and retention; use strategic enrollment and success strategies across the student life cycle (pre-entry, enrollment, retention, and completion) to ensure that the packaging and offering of courses and programs meet student expectations, employer needs, and institutional goals. • As a member of the executive leadership team, help establish strategic priorities and corresponding achievement indicators in support of the institution’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan. • Maintain fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation in concert with goals and institutional priorities. • Provide continued programming through the Center for Teaching and Learning, and support Service Learning and Civic Engagement initiatives; establish and coordinate special initiatives to recognize faculty excellence; maintain a comprehensive mentoring/orientation program for new faculty. • Work closely and collaboratively with Faculty Senate and other constituent groups and institutional committees; demonstrate a commitment to shared governance and a collegial environment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics: • Earned doctorate from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree in an academic discipline preferred. • Combination of seven or more years of postsecondary teaching and progressively responsible academic administrative experience in higher education; including at minimum two years of experience as a full-time faculty member, preferably in an academic/transfer field; three years as dean or other equivalent administrative position; and prefer a minimum of one year full-time experience in student affairs, preferably in a community college setting. • Commitment to open access mission and student success agenda of community colleges, as it relates to transfer, career, workforce and personal and professional programming; a record of developing academic and career-focused programs that meet the changing needs of students, employers and the community. • Able to demonstrate successful implementation of student success initiatives, with outcomes validating increases in retention and completion; preference given to candidates with experience in Guided Pathways implementation. • Successful experience fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable learning environment. • Success working in collaborative/shared governance environment that requires exceptional interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills; must have a reputation of being approachable and eager to hear from those who will be affected by a decision. • Able to demonstrate success managing change, developing cohesive teams, empowering others, setting clear and measurable goals, and making difficult decisions.
