Chemistry and Biochemistry: NMR, Protein Folding and Protein Engineering Scientist (Open until filled. Apply by 4/23/2020)
The Millhauser Laboratory at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an NMR, Protein Folding and Protein Engineering Scientist. Under the direction of Professor Glenn Millhauser, the NMR, Protein Folding and Protein Engineering Scientist will participate in the lab's ongoing research into proteins that regulate metabolic function. Research for this position will focus on: 1) studying by solution NMR how mutations affect fold and function and 2) how the protein can be chemically modified to treat wasting diseases such as cancer and AIDS. The research is highly collaborative, involving partner labs that carry out receptor binding and physiological experiments. Consequently, excellent communication and writing skills are also required.
Applicants with expertise in Chemistry or Biochemistry and significant experience in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: solution NMR, as well as protein chemistry and protein mutagenesis and related analytical techniques.
ACADEMIC TITLE Assistant Project Scientist -Associate Project Scientist, determined by qualifications and experience
SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field at time of application.
Evidence of at least three years of experience with solution NMR, as well as protein chemistry and protein mutagenesis.

DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be full-time for one year. Reappointment may be considered contingent upon the availability of work and appropriate funding.
