Overview of position: Summary of the position's responsibilities: The UBMS Program Counselor will be tasked with helping program participants navigate the unique educational, social and behavioral obstacles related to attending high school and remaining in the UBMS program. This may also include issues such as staying in school and avoiding substance abuse. They may also act as social workers seeking to identify home-based problems that may impact the academic and social development of the student. The counselor will provide both college and future career counseling guidance and support.
Essential Functions include the following:
Disseminating scholarship information
Supplying School-to-College to Career guidance
Supplying admission requirements for colleges and training programs, and otherwise assist program participants with graduation preparedness.
Interpreting standardized test scores
Developing a guidance curriculum
Proving student resources
Counseling individual students and families
Coordinating with social service agencies
Facilitating conferences and orientating new students
**Approximately 8 to 10 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during the summer. **
