The Glykys Lab focuses on understanding how the inhibitory system works at the cellular level, with a particular emphasis on how the dysfunction of the inhibitory system leads to seizures. The long-term goal of the Glykys Laboratory is to identify novel strategies to treat seizures and cytotoxic edema, especially in neonates. Our research areas include: studying changes in neuronal chloride concentration and cellular volume during pathological conditions, neonatal seizures, epilepsy, and GABA(A) receptor physiology. We approach these scientific questions in the neocortex with electrophysiological and two-photon imaging.
The Research Intern will be responsible for performing and analyzing experiments studying inhibition physiology in the brain using electrophysiological and/or two-photon imaging techniques in animal models. The main focus is the study of seizures, especially in the neonatal period.
