Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
We are looking for a Research Assistant who is enthusiastic and excited about the work we do in our lab, and who wants to make a strong scientific contribution to our research. This Research Assistant will work with genetically engineered mouse models and perform a wide variety of physiology experiments, including studies implementing advanced physiological instrumentation and surgeries. It is an opportunity to be exposed to advanced techniques in molecular biology, protein and RNA purification and analysis, mammalian tissue culture, biochemical assays, immunostaining and microscopy. They will follow up experiments by organizing, processing and reporting data. The Research Assistant will be expected to be fully engaged in the intellectual activities of the lab and actively participate in lab meetings and discussions.
Please note that candidates must have a willingness to handle live mice and comfort in dealing with mouse surgeries and blood draws.
The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant include, but are not limited to:
Maintaining mouse colonies, including breeding and genotyping
Performing mouse metabolic physiology experiments
Processing mouse blood and tissue samples for protein and RNA analysis
Maintaining cell cultures and performing cell culture experiments
Assisting lab members with mouse physiology experiments
Analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data
Participation and intellectual contribution to lab meetings, journal clubs, and data discussions
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appoint of 2 years from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

1+ years of related work experience required; a combination of education and experience may be considered
Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred
Experience in basic molecular and cellular biology techniques is strongly preferred
Experience in performing animal studies preferred
Passion for science and an interest in joining a diverse laboratory community preferred
High level of initiative and motivation preferred
Works well independently and with a team preferred
Excellent communication, organization, time management, and record-keeping skills preferred
Strong organizational skills and experience in handling sensitive and confidential information preferred
