The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
Job Summary: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the area of solid tumor oncology with a primary focus in breast cancer. The individual will provide patient/family education and will be expected to participate in teaching activities for students, residents and fellows. The individual will also be responsible for the supervision and leadership of the Hematology/Oncology midlevel group.
NURSE PRACTITIONER Responsibilities include:
Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of oncology patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.
Establish medical diagnoses.
Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs.
Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice.
Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding patient care issues.
Communicate effectively with referring and primary healthcare providers.
Manage independent and shared outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
Maintain clinical documentation according to practice.
Assist with ill call and scheduled time off coverage arrangements
Manage communication with Division leadership regarding recruitment, onboarding, policies and procedures, billing and compliance, mid-level provider issues, etc.
Assist in developing and managing outpatient clinic flow
Plan and lead quarterly mid-level provider meetings
Assist with coordinating and managing the mid-level provider performance incentive plan
Coordinate mid-level provider education program for clinic nurses
Nurse Practitioner Minimum Qualifications:
Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start
A Master's degree in nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program
At least three (3) years nursing experience
Nurse Practitioner Ideal Qualifications:
At least 2-3 years of experience working and treating patients with oncology related health issues
Comfortable with conducting shared medical appointments
Comfortable with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups
Individual should enjoy being part of multi-disciplinary team
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT Responsibilities include:
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician
Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient
Carry out therapeutic procedures; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress. Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions;
May make work assignments for assigned nursing and technical personnel; review the work of lower rated employees; train new personnel
Participate in teaching medical students and physician assistant students in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physician Assistant Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies;
Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Current/valid PA license to practice in the state of Ohio.
A minimum of one year PA experience.
