Health Sciences Librarian, Assistant Professor of Practice
Position Description: PRIMARY PURPOSE OR RESPONSIBILITY: The Health Sciences Librarian develops curated collections, provides research expertise, and delivers educational services for health sciences programs. At present, these include Pharmacy, Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Dentistry, Audiology, and Physician Assistant. S/he makes forward thinking contributions to learning-centered academic support programs, projects, and services that advance 21st Century information discovery and access and foster scholarly communications, research management, and digital opportunities. S/he also delivers services and supervises student workers in the Rite Aid Information Commons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Develop and deliver a high impact educational program that strategically targets research intensive courses and scaffolds learning outcomes, in collaboration with health sciences faculty. 2. Provide research consultation services, in person and online, to the Stockton Campus Library, Rite Aid Information Commons, Sacramento Campus Library, and San Francisco Campus Library. 3. Curate health sciences collections, including owned, licensed, and open source, and foster resources discoverability, visibility, and usage. 4. Contribute to the academic support librarian team, working collaboratively with other student-centered academic support providers to enhance students' educational experiences. 5. Partner with instructional designers and faculty developers to integrate library resources and library expertise into online education. 6. Forge innovative partnerships between teaching faculty, library technologists in the library's makerspace, and Center for Teaching and Learning instructional designers, to integrate library making tools' and online learning tools into health sciences curricula. 7. Foster campus faculty and student contributions to the libraries' institutional repository, Scholarly Commons. 8. Contribute to campus information literacy goals' evolution and assessment. 9. Participate in local, regional, national or international organizations that advance library and information science in health fields. 10. Serve on University and department committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate. 11. Engage in scholarly/creative/professional activities that advance knowledge and foster enrichment, as desired and in consultation with the University Librarian.
Basic Qualifications: ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information science or equivalent experience
Bachelors degree in natural or health sciences or relevant recent experience
At least one year of experience delivering educational and research services in an academic library, medical library, or health-services information center
Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
Demonstrated success in teaching and learning activities, including understanding of best practices such as active learning Passion for quality library services centered around student learning and realized through collegial partnerships Experience with collection curation, including the evaluation and selection of content in print and electronic formats, and document delivery and resource sharing services Facility with utilizing technology to transform information provision and learning experience Ability to manage time and coordinate projects in a rapidly changing environment, with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in an inclusive and multicultural setting and a deep commitment to supporting and promoting diversity Commitment to collaborative teamwork and quality service Ability to train and supervise student assistants
Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Some evening and weekend work is required. The Health Sciences Librarian serves health sciences programs at the Stockton, San Francisco, and Sacramento campuses. The position is approximately 10% travel between university campus locations.
