About the Opportunity: Within the Office of Global Services (OGS), the International Student Engagement Manager will serve as a key student facing representative. S/he will play an essential role in developing and implementing programs and support initiatives that ensure international students' successful arrival, transition, and continued acculturation. .. Through a culturally-informed lens, and in service of Northeastern's values around global citizenship, this person will support student groups, plan and execute events, respond to student needs, lead orientation planning and delivery, and collaborate with partners across campus to ensure that international students' needs are widely represented and met.
Under the supervision of the Director and in conjunction with various departments on campus, the International Student Engagement Manager will develop programs that outreach to appropriate international constituencies and help achieve institutional goals. Initiatives include but are not limited to the following: International Education Week (IEW) OGS Carnevale, orientation, Diwali, Thanksgiving, Beyond Borders, and World Cafe. Some events will be sponsored by OGS while others will require developmental advising work with international student groups. S/he will serve as an advisor to various student groups whose mission is to recognize and celebrate cultures.
Notably, Northeastern has campus locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Charlotte, Seattle, London, Vancouver, and Toronto, in addition to Boston; student services and collaborations includes these regions as well. Creative solutions for programming and support, that are both on ground and virtual, will be a part of the role.
Responsibilities: This person will also support the Global Student Ambassadors (GSA), and work collaboratively to ensure completion of all GSM assigned projects. The Global Student Ambassador program is a leadership program which requires ongoing training and professional development of students. This will be a shared responsibility of this role.
Creative, engaging, relevant, and timely communication with students will also be a part of this role. This person will lead OGS in the development of social media and other marketing materials for programs, events, and announcements, as well as assess the success of these messages. S/he will create and/ or manage the creation of marketing material for OGSprinted and digital. This includes virtual resources such as webinars, videos, and interactive training experiences.
As a student engagement professional, this person will understand that the success of international students is connected to how information is shared at key touchpoints. Toward this end, s/he will work with advisors in OGS to develop and implement -standardized pre-arrival and lifecycle communication.
We seek a highly collaborative and creative individual who can work independently in a fast-paced environment that requires sophisticated project management, event planning, and communication skills.
This role requires some night and weekend work.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, International Affairs, College Student Personnel or similar degree required. Masters preferred. 3 - 5 years' experience working in international student support programs, student activities, student affairs or related field. Knowledge of international student acculturation and familiarity with immigration and compliance issues preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population on a fast-paced campus a must. An existing knowledge of Northeastern and its unique educational program is desired.
