The Department of Photography in the Division of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, invites applications for a full-time faculty position on a 2-year appointment as Assistant Professor in Residence to commence in Fall of 2020.

The successful candidate should be prepared to teach photography by way of a wide array of conceptual and material approaches to the image, and to contextualize photographic images and objects as both artistic and social forms. Candidates with a record of practice in alternative and conceptual modes distinct from traditional documentary forms will be preferred, and we are especially interested in candidates whose research and practice centers bodies of knowledge from historically underrepresented communities.
We have a low faculty to student ratio, and seek applicants who highly value their role as mentor and teacher. We place a premium on interpersonal and leadership skills, clarity, generosity, and creativity in both personal work and teaching. Candidates should be prepared to develop culturally diverse syllabi for studio and seminar courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and to lead classes and critiques that model constructive, inclusive discussions and that encourage students to grow creatively and intellectually.
Job Qualifications Required:
Applicants should have an MFA in Photography or its equivalent; at least 2 years cumulative teaching experience at the undergraduate and or graduate level; and a strong record of exhibition and creative work.
