The Ntranos Lab at the Diabetes Center at UCSF is seeking a highly motivated junior specialist with a strong background in computational biology and mathematics to join our computational methods development efforts in the area of single cell genomics. The specialist will have the unique opportunity to work on projects at the intersection of genomics and immunology in collaboration with the Bluestone lab at the Diabetes Center and lead the analysis of large-scale single cell RNA-seq datasets.
Required Qualifications: • Must possess (or in process of obtaining) a BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Biology or related discipline. • Proficiency in Python, C++ and/or R.
• Experience with large-scale genomics datasets and bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., alignment). • Experience with machine learning techniques and statistical methods (e.g., classification, prediction). • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. • Applicants must have obtained the required degree by the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: • Experience working with biologists and domain experts. • Formal training/coursework in Statistics, Algorithms and Programming. • Experience with high performance computing (cloud computing / local clusters). • Prior experience/research in immunology related projects.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
