Under the general direction of the IRB Administrator, provide analytical, technical and professional support to the Biomedical/Clinical or the Social/Behavioral/Educational Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the UCI research community. Responsibilities relate primarily to the facilitation of a central IRB review (sIRB) process, which includes the use of commercial IRBs, contracted with UCI. Responsibilities include analysis and application of federal and state regulations and human research policies and procedures; development of complex memos detailing sIRB review decisions, and management of protocol review information in electronic and hard copy formats. As the sIRB process can be complex as well as dynamic, critical qualities include strong analytical abilities, courteous and effective interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to organize, prioritize and manage a complex workload in order to facilitate research activities.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in human subjects' research administration.
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and employ effective and creative problem-solving techniques, including: strong analytical skills sufficient to conduct comprehensive analysis and the ability to rapidly review and accurately analyze complex documents, policies, regulations and correspondence in detail.
Demonstrated ability to write grammatically correct, clear and concise correspondence.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people at all levels of an organization to explain policies, regulations, procedures, practices, and to present facts, findings, conclusions and recommendations in a clear, concise manner.
Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service via telephone or in person. Able to communicate professionally, tactfully and kindly.
Necessary skill to work with relational databases and online platforms for information management and quality assurance.
Skill to operate a computer in a networked environment, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite and Adobe Applications.
Ability to organize, prioritize and manage a complex and ever-changing workload.

Ability to follow administrative policies and procedures, and instructions from supervisors.

Familiarity with research methodology and terminology.
Experience with a Human Research Protections program in an academic setting.
Experience with a sIRB process at another or comparable academic institution.
Experience in Cascade or other comparable web content management system.
