The Center for Social Equity and Inclusion at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a two-year full-time Fellowship starting in fall of 2020.
Rhode Island School of Design recognizes equity and inclusion as fundamental to its learning community and integral to an art and design education. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, scholarship, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to inclusion and excellence.
We are seeking a creative practitioner, scholar, and/or researcher, whose work engages non-western, indigenous, and/or historically marginalized cultures, histories and forms of knowledge; investigates, critiques, or addresses the ways in which power shapes notions of value and inequality, in particular understandings of race and its intersections with other issues; and/or fosters inclusion by exploring pedagogies and practices that meaningfully engage a diverse range of students/communities.
The ideal candidate will be working on an ambitious creative/research project that has the potential to engage the RISD community; and be able to offer a range of, possibly interdisciplinary, courses that would appeal to an internationally diverse student population of artists and designers. We seek candidates who demonstrate a high level of creative and scholarly practice, quality undergraduate teaching, and an ability to contribute programming to the Center's Teaching and Learning Lab as well as the broader institution to further our social equity and inclusion initiatives.
Job Qualifications Required:
· A terminal degree in applicant's respective discipline by July 2020. · Evidence of a high level of creative/scholarly practice. · Evidence of successful teaching at the college level. · Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion · Ability to work supportively with students, faculty, staff, in the furthering of the Center's mission. · Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
