Mason Recreation's Team Development and Experiential Learning program (The EDGE), located at Mason's Science and Technology Campus in Manassas, is seeking applicants for the position of EDGE Facilities Assistant.
The EDGE is an incredible opportunity to work with others in an exciting environment. Applicants will assist in maintaining grounds, aerial and ground-based challenge course elements, and equipment under the direction of an expert Facilities Manager. The position also supports an enthusiastic team of facilitators and diverse clients on The EDGE challenge course. We are open year-round, and our busiest season runs from March to late November. This position starts in a trainee role in March and provides steady work through late fall, with hours significantly reduced in the winter. The position has a strong possibility for advancement and growth in responsibility later this year.
Maintain The EDGE campus grounds, operating appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This may include maintaining trails and boardwalks, clearing tree hazards, and clearing briars and similar growth;
Assist in inspection, repair, and maintenance of facilities and challenge course elements. This may include carpentry and stain work as well as wrench-on safety checks and rope and gear inspection, inventory, and recommendations;
Assist in purchasing equipment and other materials using Mason purchasing systems;
Assist in the operation of aerial elements;
Perform duties in accordance with Mason and local, state, and federal government guidelines as well as Association for Challenge Course Technology standards;
Perform additional duties consistent with the mission and established policies of the university and The EDGE.
Ability to work a minimum of two weekdays between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm;
Current First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications or ability to be certified within 30 days of start date;
Physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods and strength necessary for the physical exertion of grounds maintenance in an outdoor wooded environment;
Experience working with saws and drills.
A high school diploma or its equivalent;
Two years of experience in facility and site maintenance, ideally in a challenge course environment or similar recreational site;
Comfort with working at heights of up to 60 feet.
