The USC Machine Shop is recruiting for a full-time Experimental Machinist.Â The Machine Shop consists of six full-time positions: five experimental machinists and the shop foreman.
The primary responsibility of the experimental machinist is to provide sophisticated machining services to the USC faculty, staff and graduate research assistants.Â The faculty research programs continuously require the timely production of prototype, one-of-a-kind parts or equipment to be used in experiments of all types.
The successful candidate will have journeyman level machining skills with the ability to hold close tolerances to produce high quality prototypes for research purposes, and be adept at setting up and operating CNC, and conventional mills and lathes. In addition, experience with a variety of other manual machinery, toll grinders, surface grinder, drill presses, etc is needed. Â Â Â Shop math and trigonometry is required. The ideal candidate should have experience with a variety of metals, plastics and exotic materials.Â Some mechanical engineering skills are preferred.
3 years of related experience and specialized training
Knowledge of SOLIDWORKS and Mastercam, or other Cad Cam system
5 years of related experience and specialized training
Broad experience in different industries. Experience programming 2 and 3 axis Acu-Rite, Haas and Prototrak CNC controllers
Skills in TIG and other types of welding are a plus
