As a key member of the Advancement Communications and Marketing Team, the Writer contributes to the editorial and production functions of the unit. Under the direction of the Sr. Associate Director, Creative Content, the Writer is responsible for the ideation, coordination, and execution of content focused on philanthropic impact and alumni engagement. Drawing on the themes of Boston College's fundraising priorities, the Writer has experience in contributing to concepts for digital, email, social, and direct mail, and will focus on engaging our alumni, parents, and friends in marketing campaigns, donor publications, and numerous other mediums.
The Writer works with a variety of partners (including donors, students, and fundraisers) and should be comfortable writing both actionable short-form copy (subject lines, email appeals, etc.) and also more complex storytelling (profiles, long form narrative etc.) An expert collaborator who works well with other writers and designers, the Writer will balance a portfolio of editing and writing and can engage with strategic partners to bring messaging to life in innovative ways. The Writer has an understanding of how a campaign can be executed across platforms with tailored messaging by channels, and is a proactive, self-starter who can work well both independently and as part of a team. The Writer also maintains the production, editorial, and graphic standards ensuring the highest possible quality and consistency in look and feel for all projects, and s/he ensures compliance with style guidelines and visual format requirements from all contributors.
*Concept and write copy for broad engagement touch points: brand campaigns, editorial site content, email marketing, direct mail pieces, Instagram stories, advertising, video scripts, engagement events, and beyond. *Manages a portfolio that includes content for brand collateral, direct mail, alumni event marketing, and various digital channels and can translate creative briefs into engaging and effective concepts. *Learning and applying the Boston College style and institutional voice across various segments, constituencies, and publications *Working with University Advancement stakeholders and marketing campaign managers to help source narratives meeting each fundraising unit's editorial needs and understand business objectives and audience demographics *Participate in strategic brainstorming and coordinating in-person and remote interviews with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends to bring stories from concept to fruition *Writing various copy options and iterating as needed until the final product meets the high quality standards of University Advancement Communications and Marketing and exercise quality control while working on multiple projects simultaneously
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $51,350 to $64,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
This position requires a minimum of three years of experience working as a writer, preferably in a development-related environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, proven ability to prioritize under pressure, and can adapt to frequent changes and feedback. Understanding of direct mail production and best practices is a bonus, but not required. Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education and have an appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College.
A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in English, journalism or a related field.
