Thomas Nelson Community College is located on the Virginia Peninsula in the heart of Hampton Roads, a region renowned for being the birthplace of America and home to communities rich in culture and industry. Founded in 1967, Thomas Nelson serves over 11,500 students, of diverse backgrounds each year. Faculty and staff are strategic and responsive, committed to understanding and meeting the needs of the region. The college has two campuses, one in Hampton and the Historic Triangle Campus located in Williamsburg. The college also has a satellite site at the Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News. The communities served by the college are the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York. **The Position** The Dean provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the collegeâs division, with responsibility for degree credit programs, Career Studies Certificates, and Workforce trainings. As part of an academic management team pursuing excellence through collaboration and creation of a learner-centered environment, the position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Workforce Development. The Dean implements divisions goals and objectives related to the collegeâs strategic plan and Workforce Development; oversees program and course development and evaluations; promotes and maintains relationships with community agencies, organizations and businesses that support the division; recommends the hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty and division staff; evaluates full-time and adjunct faculty and divisions staff; implements college policies and procedures appropriate to division operations; manages operations of relevant grants and contracts; manages the divisions budget and expenditures; and ensures compliance with state mandated performance measures, regional accreditation requirements, and standards for professional program accreditation. The Division for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) contains a wide variety of academic programs including Associate of Science degrees, Associate of Applied Science degrees, Certificates, and Career Studies Certificates that support direct transfer to 4-year colleges and universities, as well as direct pathways to careers. The academic disciplines include Engineering, Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering Technologies, Information Technology, Computer Science, Automotive, HVAC, Mechatronics, Unmanned Systems, Welding, and Machining.
