The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The Alliance Laboratory Senior Manager (Senior Manager) provides leadership and oversight of all services provided by the SCCA Alliance Laboratory. This ensures high quality performance, cost effective resource utilization, implementation of standardized, reliable and lean processes plus continuous improvement. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Laboratories, with scientific leadership provided by the SCCA Clinical Laboratories Medical Director.
Direct laboratory operations for specimen collection and processing, diagnostic testing services, specimen sendouts, bone marrow technician assistance and flu injection clinic
Oversee transfusion support services to ensure ongoing effective collaboration with UW Medical Center Transfusion Service Laboratory, safe and efficient receipt, storage and distribution of blood products
Develop organization structure and management systems to ensure high quality services; identify opportunities for improvement, resolve issues and implement changes
Participate in strategic planning to identify departmental goals in support of the overall organizational strategic plan, supporting the mission and vision of the SCCA
Develop, monitor and manage operating and capital budgets, including capital acquisitions
Establish and maintain a strong laboratory workforce through hiring, effective training, performance management, mentoring, continuing education and ongoing staff development
Provide leadership for continuous performance improvement
Assure compliance with regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, DOH, The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS and all other applicable requirements
Develop and administer departmental policies and procedures; create, revise, implement maintain standard operating procedures; establish and document a process to educate staff on new or revised departmental and organizational policies and procedures (SOP, APOP)
Manage the laboratory quality assurance and quality improvement program; work collaboratively with the Laboratory QA Manager, and participate in the Lab QI Committee
Represent the Alliance Laboratory at meetings, committees, projects and initiatives across SCCA departments and partner organizations; work collaboratively with providers, researchers, administrators and other professionals at the SCCA to ensure that high quality customer service is provided by all facets of the Alliance Laboratory
B.S. in Medical Technology or related biological science
Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Technology or equivalent
Certification as Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) required
Minimum five years experience in a clinical laboratory with demonstration of increasing responsibilities
Minimum five years supervisory or management experience
Experience with CLIA requirements, CAP standards, and other applicable laboratory regulatory requirements
Demonstrated clinical judgment in working with physicians and other health professionals
Experience with laboratory information systems
Demonstrated leadership skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge Of laboratory billing, including CPT codes and billing compliance
Operating and capital budget experience
