Coordinator for Competitive Sports, Campus Recreation - Office of Student Life 14478
Campus Recreation, a unit within the Division of Student Life, is seeking applications for a Coordinator for Competitive Sports. This position oversees the operational, financial and personnel functions of the Intramural and Club Sports programs and serves as the key administrator for the various programs/events and services within the Competitive Sports area.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, this position is responsible for managing a diverse student Club Sport program involving a range of competitive, recreational and instructional clubs with several hundred participants and is responsible for coordinating the daily operations, staffing, and strategic visioning for the program area as well as the student development initiatives. Directly supervises Graduate Assistant staff, student staff, and officials. This person will be responsible for growing activity offerings in line with university needs and industry trends.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Provide day to day leadership of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming with an emphasis on risk and financial management.
Recruit, hire, on-board, train, supervise, evaluate, mentor, and facilitate professional development for Graduate Assistants.
Recruit, hire, train and evaluate Club Sports and Intramural Sports Staff.
Provide daily staff supervision.
Train, advise, and provide leadership development to all club officers to assist them in the administration of individual club activities, and successful compliance with campus, conference and governing bodies' policies.
Become proficient in the use of Fusion as a management tool for Campus Recreation specifically as it relates to program administration.
Implement all programs utilizing current recreational sports and student development practices.
Collaborate with Coordinator of Competitive Sports to offer programs such as summer leagues, sports performance training, youth programming and event demonstrations.
Assist with additional areas of program delivery dependent on individual competency and program needs.
Responsible for the inventory and purchasing of equipment for programming needs as well as individual club needs.
Administer employee and participant related disciplinary action.
Manage facility preparation for home contests, preseason preparation, master competitive schedules of clubs, weekly practice schedules and post-season playoff involvement.
Assist in creation of policies and procedures, develop and adjust rules with necessary forms to provide a safe and enjoyable playing environment.
Collaborate with Operations and Events Team and Associate Director regarding policies and procedures impacting all Club Sports and Intramural Sports related areas and recommend improvements to policies and guidelines.
Schedule and coordinate indoor and outdoor venues for programs.
Coordinate and oversee a risk management plan pertinent to Club Sports and Intramural Sports activities in order to ensure compliance with industry standard of care.

Two (2) years of experience working in a college or university recreation environment with emphasis on a student development driven program, during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position. Graduate Assistant position may meet this requirement.
One (1) year of experience in leadership of Club Sports and/or Intramural Sports programming, risk management, and fiscal management.
Experience in travel coordination of Student organizations, and understanding of policies, procedures and safety measures accompanying travel (regional and national).
Experience in officiating and officials development.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage comprehensive Intramural and Club Sports programming.
Demonstrated ability to develop officials and lead training's for students
Demonstrated understanding of sound fiscal management practices as they pertain to student organizations, sponsored organizations, and external vendors.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
Ability to work nights and some weekends.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
Ability to write concise, logical reports.
Knowledge of Human Resources theories and best practices in recruitment and staff development.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles with the capacity to understand budgets.
Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
Analytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office).
CPR/AED, First Aid Certification Blood Borne Pathogen CPR/AED, First Aid, or Instructor training preferred. Must obtain within 6 weeks.
