The Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy (MIDE) at UMKC seeks qualified candidates for the position of Research Engineering Technician I (RET I). In this role, the successful candidate will support multiple aspects of research and development needs of the Port Hueneme research group. The ideal candidate should have a record of demonstrated ability to assist and solve complex engineering problems; a willingness to learn new methods, systems, and technologies; strong self-motivation; the ability to work independently as well as on a team; and, capability to execute on parallel assignments according to aggressive deadlines, while maintaining safety as top priority.
Job duties will include, but are not limited to:
Performing highly complex/skilled work in designing, constructing, installing, and/or repairing of technical equipment and components
Installation/commission, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of scientific equipment and instruments
Provide a timely response to the needs of ongoing work, related assemblies design, and implementation
Professional interactions with students and peers through verbal and written communications
Meeting with staff and faculty to discuss design and operation of parts and systems
Plotting, summarizing, transferring, and organization of experimentally collected data, as requested;
Continuous professional development and ability to complete required training
Keeping inventories and records of parts and instrument histories
Implementing solutions for operational and technical needs of research activities
Procuring materials, parts, and instruments in alignment with research/project goals
Maintaining a safe and secure work environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and at least 2 years of experience in a relevant field of work; and,
Ability to hold and maintain a United States security clearance
Experience in a laboratory environment in support of fast paced, high demand research activities
Experience supporting research through data collection, equipment maintenance/upkeep, and analysis of data
Experience collecting, organizing, and manipulation of experimentally derived data from commercial and/or custom built instrumentation
PCB layout with experience in HF/HV considerations, manufacturability, and assembly
3D CAD design
Experience or certification in soldering and electronics/electrical repair or installation
Working knowledge of LabVIEW, C++, python, or equivalent programming languages skills
Experience in electrical measurements
Data/Statistical data analysis
Experience in reporting/presenting to senior officials
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Ability to hold and maintain a United States security clearance
Full Time/Part Time
Salary Range $16.92 - $23.80 Hourly
Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm or comparable. Culture of flexibility is supported
