At Carnegie Mellon University, the study of politics through the subject area of political science with support from other social science fields is centered in the Institute for Politics and Strategy (IPS). IPS carries on a respected tradition of interdisciplinary political science at Carnegie Mellon as it also builds upon the university's rich heritage of applying basic science to issues of public policy. We offer the following graduate academic programs: a newly launched Master of Science in International Relations and Politics (two-year program version and accelerated version for CMU undergraduates), and the Master of Information Technology Strategy Program (MITS).
We are searching for a Graduate Program Manager. This is an excellent opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this new role, you will responsible for comprehensive program management and academic advising for all IPS graduate programs and student and ensuring that the programs run optimally from both day-to-day and a planning perspective.
Core responsibilities will include:
Academic advising, program communication, curriculum review, graduate handbook development, policies, course schedules, graduation certification, admissions, recruiting, orientation, and related student programs and events.
Liaise with the IPS deputy director and IPS faculty regarding student issues and concerns.
Support the academic, personal, and professional development of students including, but not limited to, the selection of academic courses, internship/job placement components, graduation exit interviews, alumni involvement, networking and program outreach, and student recruitment.
Coordinate an annual networking trip to Washington, DC by working reciprocally with the team there.
Develop strategies for improving demographics and applicant quality to degree programs by planning and implementing recruiting fairs, leading all aspects the admission processes, representing the programs to external and internal audiences, and encouraging relationships with other schools and universities.
Coordinate the advertisement and admissions process for the summer Friedman Fellowship program, a scholarship to help support unpaid and low-paying internships in Washington, DC.

Capability to maintain accurate and detailed records; and
Capacity to remain calm when dealing with difficult and stressful situations.
This role is based on the Pittsburgh campus, and you should be able to travel around Pittsburgh, occasional travel to Washington, DC, and other locations as needed. You should also be able to work outside normal business hours as some evening and weekend hours may be required to meet deadlines.
Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, higher education administration, or related field required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Minimum three years of academic advising and/or academic program management experience required.
