The UCI Health Compliance & Privacy Office coordinates activities of an integrated institutional oversight program including: Revenue Cycle Compliance, Compliance Auditing, HIPAA Privacy & Security Compliance, and Research Compliance.
Under the direction of UC Irvine Health's Compliance Privacy Officer, the Principal Compliance & Privacy Analyst is responsible for providing regulatory advice to UCI Health on highly-complex privacy and compliance issues through contract review, special projects, and investigations. In this capacity, the individual will use their background knowledge of state and federal privacy and compliance laws to negotiate contracts, advise department and medical center leadership on compliant policies and procedures in special projects, and independently lead privacy and compliance investigations. The individual will be required to identify compliance risk areas through his or her work and develop (1) policies and procedures to improve on the risk areas and (2) educate workforce members on the revised or new policies and procedures.
8-10 years of relevant work experience and/or equivalent education and experience.
2-3 years of relevant regulatory experience and complex analysis
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Master's degree or equivalent experience as privacy analyst in a healthcare setting.
Certified in Healthcare Compliance preferred.
Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) required.
Stays up to date on current HIPAA regulations, state privacy laws, and medical center and UC procedures. Ability to implement HIPAA and other privacy regulations. Utilizes knowledge of clinical operations and patient care work-flow to provide guidance to departments and providers.
Skilled written and verbal communicator. Applies discretion and tact regarding sensitive and confidential issues.
Role models interpersonal and problem solving skills. Ability to listen actively, think critically, persuade, advice, and counsel.
Ability to work in high stress environment with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. Proven project management and database management skills.
Advanced organizational and project management skills. Demonstrates flexibility and handles multiple and competing responsibilities; sets goals, prioritizes tasks, and identifies resources.
Advanced knowledge of the privacy program database systems to administer the database and troubleshoot issues. In-depth knowledge of research and reporting to comply with privacy regulations.
Ability to review, analyze and summarize data in MS Excel and Power Point required; ability to use Access preferred; working knowledge of Word.
Ability to maintain professional credentials
May be required to work beyond Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or on weekends in order to accommodate the operational needs of the Vice Chancellor's office.
Will be required to travel between the Medical Center in Orange and the Irvine campus.
