Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking multiple Medical Services Assistants for the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Rutgers Health Group Medical Services Assistant performs administrative and clinical tasks as assigned to support effective and efficient office operations. As directed by the physician, administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections in limited circumstances which may be delegated under the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners regulations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Helps facilitate data flow by retrieving or locating diagnostic test results and facilitate patient flow by monitoring the patient’s stay, i.e. informing the provider when test results are back, or if the results are not back following up to ensure they are completed.
Identifies inconsistencies, errors and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care.
Follows up with the healthcare provider to ensure the accuracy of the reports.
Submits health records for physicians to approve.
Enters medical reports into electronic health records systems.
Performs and documents patient care-related tasks as assigned by the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and/or physician.
Under the direction and supervision of the physician and other providers, administers intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections in limited circumstances as outlined by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners regulations; accurately and completely documents medication administration in the medical record.
Provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status to the registered nurse and other members of the health care team as appropriate and in a timely manner.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a “certified medical assistant” as outlined in NJAC 13:35-6.4(a)2.
May be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
At least one (1) year of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Must have demonstrated competency in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections techniques.
Demonstrated competency in Point of Care testing.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Demonstrated competency in basic word processing and computer skills.
Experience in a medical office setting.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
Completion of a medical interpreter training course.
Experience with Electronic Medical Record System, GE Centricity System.
Able to travel to provide coverage at “off-site” practices, as needed.
