Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Medical Health Technician for the Nursing Department at the Eric B. Chandler Health Center of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Medical Health Technician participates in the performance of health evaluations and phlebotomy duties for infants, children, adults and OB/GYN patients, as assigned.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Prepares environment for daily activities.
Assists patients with preparing for physical examination.
Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities.
Performs Point of Care Testing (e.g. HgbA1c, pregnancy testing, INR, Strep A) as indicated by standing orders or provider written order and documents on appropriate forms.
Performs phlebotomy procedure as ordered, on all age groups of Health Center.
Performs EKG procedure, as ordered.
Responds to emergency situations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Completion of an accredited program in Medical Assisting, or its equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant (program must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current and valid BLS certification.
Certification in phlebotomy, CPR and EKG.
Must be able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Experience in Venipuncture techniques.
Candidates without EKG certification may apply (certification must be obtained within one (1) year).
