The Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking applicants for a position in Special Education to begin August 24, 2020. This is a tenure track position, either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank, for a candidate with an earned doctorate and an emerging or established record of teaching, research, and service appropriate for level of appointment.
Responsibilities: Teaching undergraduate and graduate pre-service or practicing teachers in special education, student teacher supervision, advising students enrolled in education programs, serving on department, university, state-wide committees and other activities as assigned. Scholarship, including research and publication are required for tenure and promotion.
Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank: Doctorate in Education or related field from a regionally accredited university, completed by start of contract. Commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering diversity across campus. A record of, or potential for, strong research contributions in special education or related field.
Required Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank: Applicants for the position of Associate Professor must meet the requirements above and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (scholarly research or other creative work, teaching, and service) that satisfies the criteria for Associate Professor status in the Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of successful teaching in K-12 settings with students with high incidence disabilities (LD, EBD, DD, ASD); strong written communication skills; a broad background in special education preparation; advanced preparation in reading instruction; teaching experience at the university level; ability to work well with others; experience working with students from ethnically and linguistically diverse populations and evidence of ability to integrate social justice issues into the curriculum; experience working with Indigenous communities; interest in P-12 community partnerships; experience in teaching with technology; experience with teaching online courses; experience with supervision of students in P-12 school settings.
