Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Clinic Services Representative I for the Department of Neurosurgery at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Clinical Services Representative I performs a variety of billing and collection duties in support of clinic and/or business operations. This position provides guidance, support, and leadership to Clinic Services Representatives II, as needed. The candidate will function as a senior staff member handling more complex issues and problems as well as performing administrative tasks, as assigned, to support effective and efficient office operations in the Department of Neurosurgery.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Counsels patients with regards to more complex inquiries, payment arrangements, third party payer practices, etc. Refers patients to back end resources, as appropriate.
Answers routine and complex inquires with regard to status of patient billing, insurance payments, etc.; refers more appropriate issues to Supervisor for resolution in accordance with established guidelines.
Maintains computer databases entering changes in demographic, insurance and other information, as required.
Post patient, third party or collection agency payments to patient accounts in assigned areas.
Works effectively as a team member, offering support, making suggestions, accepting change and handling stress in an appropriate manner. May work in varied clinic or back end assignments, as required by business and operational considerations.
Reconciles credit balances and processes valid refunds from billing and collections reports in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Monitors accuracy of records and assists in auditing of same, as required. Assures that information provided patients and coworkers is as accurate and current, as possible.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in physician, hospital or health center billing setting, including management of various types of insurance billing processes.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Must be familiar with the billing practices of Medicaid and Medicare.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) skills.
Requires working with office equipment and confidential patient records and correspondence.
Required to proofread and check documents for accuracy.
Candidates having experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center, a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift or exert up to 25 lbs.
May require working evenings and/or Saturdays.
