The Department of Anesthesia in the Roy J. and Lucille B Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa is seeking a Statistician at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The Statistician will have a clear vision for advancing research efforts and assuring research excellence in a collaborative environment that endorses team science and assists in educating the next generation of physician scientists.

Researchers in the College's over 280 laboratories are served by state-of-the-art core research facilities and research support facilities. Much of the research conducted is interdisciplinary and collaborations are fostered and coordinated through major research centers, institutes and programs. Many faculty members are internationally renowned for their research. Two faculty members are Howard Hughes Institute Investigators, 12 are members of the Institute of Medicine and two are members of the National Academy of Sciences.

Position Responsibilities: The individual selected for this position will have the opportunity to develop an independent program of scholarship. In addition, they will play an integral role in facilitating research within the department by aiding other faculty in protocol development and design, data management, study implementation, study monitoring and data analysis and reporting. Responsibilities include:
Early stage clinical trial development such as defining the study objectives and the appropriate study design and statistical method
Define Statistical Analysis Plan (study endpoints, sample size calculation, interim analysis monitoring plans, hypothesis and testing procedures)
Organize, research and conduct polls, trials, and other methods of data collection; interpret and draw conclusions from analysis
Design experiments or surveys; provide written or verbal instructions to others on how to collect data when running trials
Conduct unbiased analysis for safety and efficacy
Collaboration with the study team
Make recommendations on how to improve future studies
Use computer software and various other tools to analyze and record data and prepare/present reports
