Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking a Director of Counseling Services to lead a dedicated staff of mental health practitioners as they support students through direct service, outreach, consultation and crisis intervention. The Director plays a key role in the mental health of the campus community.
The Director is expected to establish strong, collaborative working relationships with Student Health Services and Miner Wellness Directors, and support campus efforts to promote student success. The Director must be a visible and engaged member of Counseling Services and the campus community.
Counseling Services utilizes a short-term model, where services are goal-focused and brief, providing resources, solutions and strategies to deal with individual concerns. Services offered include individual and group counseling, intake assessments, consultations and outreach programs.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for the management of the department including personnel, budget, assessment, policy formation, logistics and strategic planning. The Director provides vision and leadership in establishing and monitoring the scope and direction of the department, ensuring its operation is consistent with national standards of practice.
The Director provides counseling, consultation and outreach programs to students, faculty and staff. The Director works to ensure compliance with professional ethics, FERPA, HIPAA security and privacy standards, university rules, quality control standards, risk management policies, Title IX, ADA, VAWA and best practices in counseling services.
Oversee department operations, personnel, budget, program activities and strategic planning
Assess services and implement continuous improvement plans
Provide individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, referrals and crisis counseling within a brief treatment model to students, faculty and staff
Supervise mental health service providers, trainees and support staff; ensure the staff are trained to provide prompt, courteous and effective service
Develop and deliver educational programs on student development and mental health topics
Serve as a campus resource on mental health issues
Establish strong, collaborative relationships Student Health Services, Care Management Services and Miner Wellness to promote student well-being
Promote and represent the department, developing relationships with Student Affairs departments and other S&T partners
Serve on campus committees and taskforces
Contribute to creating a culture of care and success for all university students
A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Ph.D. in counseling, psychology or related field
Licensed/license eligible in Missouri as a psychologist, counselor, social worker or other relevant profession
Seven (7) years of experience in a mental health setting
Leadership experience, including at least three (3) years of direct supervisory responsibilities
Demonstrated planning, strategy development and organizational skills
Experience working in a higher education environment
Experience with innovation approaches to address mental health needs of college students
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
