Description of Work:
Plan, coordinate, and perform specialized culture, parasitology, susceptibility testing, bacterial identification, bacterial serology, and molecular testing on a daily basis. Assist laboratory supervisor as necessary with the development and implementation of new diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures and assure compliance with the NVDC quality system. Assist the laboratory section director with research projects and special projects. Investigate and implement new specialized testing. Assist with the routine bacteriology case work by analyzing and interpreting microbial cultures resulting in bacterial identification and antibiotic sensitivity reports. Perform parasitology testing, urinalysis, culture set-up, and other routine laboratory testing. Assign duties to staff as necessary. Train staff in specialized laboratory procedures. Write, review, and update standard operating procedures as required. Responsible for all routine testing in the laboratory which includes weekend and holiday rotations. Serve as interim laboratory manager when the manager is not available. Position will consult with VDC faculty and advise faculty and clients about submission of appropriate specimens for routine and specialized testing. Order supplies and maintain inventory of supplies and archived samples.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, veterinary science, biological sciences, medical technology, food science or related field plus three years of microbiology laboratory experience. Familiarity with sterile technique, basic media preparations, bacterial growth requirements, and biochemical testing. Knowledge of bacteriology including identification and susceptibility testing.
Master’s degree in clinical microbiology, veterinary science, biological sciences, medical technology, or related field plus five years of microbiology laboratory experience. Diagnostic laboratory management experience. Knowledge of veterinary bacterial pathogens, microagglutination testing, mycology, parasitology, and mycobacteriology.
Posted Salary: $43,354 minimum
