The Application Developer is part of the Web and Applications Group in Academic Affairs Process and Solution Implementations at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual responsible for .NET development and system support. This position is responsible for the development of new applications and the support of applications already in production. Reporting directly to the WAG Manager, the Application Developer position will partner closely with the WAG Manager, senior application developers, and business analysts to troubleshoot issues, help determine solutions, and implement the solutions.
The Application Developer position works closely with the WAG Manager and other developers to support and engineer .NET systems. This includes gaining knowledge of University policies and practices to facilitate the development and testing processes. The Developer is expected to assist in providing best-practice technology recommendations to project teams and the WAG Manager. The Developer is expected to manage their work queue and complete tasks in the time allotted.
The Academic Affairs Process and Solution Implementations (AAPSI) department organizes and leads information system implementations for Academic Affairs. The Web and Applications Group (WAG) is a team within AAPSI focused on .NET development supporting faculty, admissions, and institutional research related systems. This includes support of integrations with vended products such as Interfolio, InfoReady, and DocFinity. WAG works closely with Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) which is responsible for all hardware, system administration, and database administration. WAG's responsibilities include:
Support of systems already in production
Development of new systems as directed by the Academic Affairs Application Oversight Committee
Development of integrations with Academic Affairs' vendor partners
Partnership with other AAPSI teams to implement and support systems
Partnership with VUIT to ensure system stability and security
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in developing new applications based on requirements provided by the WAG Manager and project teams
Troubleshoot issues with existing applications and develop solutions
Add new features to existing applications
Perform unit testing of new code
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary
A degree in computer science, information systems, or related field is preferred
Familiarity with writing and analyzing SQL Queries in Oracle and/or SQL Server (including T-SQL) is necessary
Experience with full stack development and software design is necessary
Ability to analyze user needs, troubleshoot, and work in a team setting is necessary
Ability to think critically, problem solve, and strong attention to detail is necessary
