Essential Functions: Design and execute experiments to determine the novel chemical compounds from algae that has interaction effect with quagga mussels spawning. Which includes, algal cultivation, extraction, spawning assay, chemical fractionation and characterization.Identify effects of algae on non-target organisms in a mesocosm experiment.Design and perform independent experiments on cancer cell lines to determine algal compounds efficiency in blocking the receptors that is responsible for quagga mussels spawning. Work with chemistry facilities in characterization of bioactive compounds from algae.Design and execute experiments on microplastics and determining the impact on algae and other aquatic organisms.Reporting the progress of research, writing research reports, manuscripts and proposals.Assisting in laboratory management and student mentoring.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree with specialization on chemical and process engineering or bioprocess engineering.Skilled in algal cultivation, scaling up, optimization of parameters, secondary metabolite analysis, and extraction techniques.Strong experience in collection, maintenance and experimental assays with quagga mussels.Experienced in working with microplastics and executing experiments to study the impact of microplastics on aquatic organisms.Experienced in design of experiments (DoE), and post run analysis using DesignExpert? 9 software, flow cytometer analysis, in specific BD Accuri C6.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience in preparation of documents, reports and publications.
