The Department of Transplant Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant. The successful candidate will: - Expedite pre-transplant evaluations and living donor transplants: Conduct histories and physicals on transplant candidates. Interview and examine living donors and recipients. Collaborate with attending staff in interpretation of information and developing plan of care. - Network with transplant coordinators in pre-transplant evaluation and preparation for transplant. Collaborate with nephrologists in dialysis planning. - Contact appropriate personnel to obtain information necessary for pre-transplant evaluation and care. Provide continuity of care for inpatients: Collaborate with attending and nursing staff in patient evaluation and care. Participate in development and implementation of new immunosuppressive protocols. - Ensure adherence to established immunosuppressive medication protocols. Streamline patient care and reduce length of stay. Provide post-operative wound care. Ensure smooth transition to outpatient care. - Assist in transplant clinics: expedite patient flow through clinics. Follow directives of attending staff in patient care. Provide outpatient evaluations and wound care. - Evaluate and discuss patient responses to treatment. Provide patient education and support Peri-operative support: Ensure thoroughness of pre-operative evaluation. Schedule and expedite transplant and access surgery. - Assistant/ attending staff in busy operating room, with limited house staff due to 405 regulations. - Additional duties as needed (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: - NYS license and Bachelors of Science Degree from an approved Physician's Assistant Program required. - Minimum of two years of experience including inpatient care or experience in transplant and general surgery. - BLS, ACLS certified.
