The University of Southern California student conduct system is based on a developmental and progressive response to student conduct code violations within the university community. It is designed to educate students about USCâs behavioral and academic integrity standards, and assist students in understanding and acknowledging responsibility for their actions while supporting students in developing behaviors that will contribute to their wellbeing and success as members of the USC community.
The Student Judicial Affairs Hearing Officer is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the student conduct system. The Officer is involved in a variety of activities pertaining to the student conduct process.
Case Management â Conduct investigations of reported incidents of misconduct under the universityâs Student Conduct Code and other university policies, and serve as the primary point of contact for all interested parties. Gather, review and analyze evidence under the Student Conduct Code and other university policies. Maintain files for all assigned disciplinary cases, and track sanctions.
Administrative and Informational Reviews â Meet with students who have allegedly violated the student conduct code to ascertain their level of involvement. Conduct follow-up investigation as necessary. Adjudicate cases and assign developmental sanctions as appropriate.
Liaison â Serve as a liaison with the Office for Residential Education, Sorority & Fraternity Leadership, Campus Support and Intervention, academic units, the Department of Public Safety, and other departments throughout the University regarding student conduct related issues.
Office Duties â Maintain regular office hours, assist with phone calls and office work as needed, and attend staff meetings. Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director, Student Judicial Affairs and Community Standards.
Training â Assist with policy, procedure, and training manual revisions, as well as workshop designs. Opportunity to participate in workshop presentations throughout the year.
Educational Presentations â Develop and present seminars/workshops for members of the university community regarding student conduct expectations, academic integrity standards, ethics, integrity, and other issues relevant to USCâs standards of student conduct.
Advising & Meeting with Staff/Student Groups â Advise related student groups such as peer mediators, Greek organizations, and Trojans for Integrity.
Compliance Â â Maintain strict compliance with university policies, government regulations, laws and mandates, including FERPA and Clery Act.

Master's degree in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs, education, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
3 years of professional experience in Student Judicial Affairs at an institution of Higher Education.
Professional experience involving investigation and fact-finding.
Professional experience in Student Affairs, working collaboratively to support student accountability and success. Experience assessing and identifying appropriate supportive measures for student populations in higher education.
Experience working with sensitive information and demonstrating strict adherence to confidentiality mandates such as FERPA.
Experience in fields requiring exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, staff and administrators to effect positive change in student behavior.
Experience with Residential Education, IFC and PanHellenic Greek letter organizations or other student organizations.
Must have demonstrated organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize responsibilities appropriately.
Must be flexible and willing to work after hours when critical situations occur.
Must be a self-starter, able to carry out assignments with minimal instruction and supervision.
Minimum Education: - Master's degree or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: - 3 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: - Directly related experience in student support services. - Demonstrated interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.
