Hofstraâ€™s Art Department is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of PT Ceramics Laboratory Coordinator. Responsibilities include working in concert with department administrators, faculty and student aides in all aspects of maintaining the ceramics facilities. Keep the studio neat, orderly and safe. Train and supervise all student aides and set up their schedules every semester. Track and verify student aidesâ€™ hours every Monday so that the administrator who oversees all student timesheets for the department can finalize approvals. Order all supplies for courses, including clay and glaze chemicals. Firing of kilns and small kiln repair is a must. Make sure all equipment is in working order and adheres to the safety standards set by the University. This includes potterâ€™s wheels, electric kilns, gas kiln, mixers, heat guns and assorted supplies. Must be proactive in terms of organizing, repairing and anticipating needs to help the program grow while maintaining high standards of safety.
Candidates must be able to organize and handle all aspects of the lab. There is a particular need for a coordinator who is fluent in ceramics, engineering and glaze chemistry, especially in the creation of new glazes, and in the overseeing of studentsâ€™ glaze formulation. Candidate must possess the ability to work independently.
Hours: 20 hours per week in consultation with department administration.
