Job Description: Temporary, part-time position expected to start May 2020 to the end of July, 2020, depending on continued university need. Assistance as needed, with the majority of the work taking place Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during Summer Academic Challenge (June 25th-July 23rd)
Responsibilities: Uniquely qualified individual to assist teachers and students while utilizing Puget Sound labs to achieve curriculum goals. This position will manage labs for student learning groups.
Lab Assistants Will:
Assist the teachers and students with projects while in the labs.
Document work for the Summer Academic Challenge Operations Manual and troubleshoot lab operations as needed.
Order supplies and report items that need to be reimbursed to the Puget Sound labs.
Prepare lab equipment before student/teacher arrival and make sure the lab is left ready for future use at the end.
Have an opportunity to share their passion for learning mathematics and science with local youth.
Support certified classroom teachers with classroom management and curriculum implementation.
Can serve as a positive role model for 7-12th-grade students
Work with local 7-12th grade students on in-class assignments and activities.
Chaperone the students on trips, engage students during lunch and activity time, and monitor student activity before and after classroom instruction adjourns.
Maintain storage room and logs.
Must be a Puget Sound student; current or graduating.
Experience in working in labs at Puget Sound a must.
Experience with local schools and/or youth a plus.
Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations. This position does not qualify for benefits.
