Assistant/Associate or Professor of Research ( Biostatistics) TheÂ SabanÂ Research InstituteÂ (TSRI)Â is seeking a director of the BiostatisticsÂ and Data AnalysisÂ Core at Childrenâs Hospital Los AngelesÂ (CHLA). TheÂ successfulÂ candidate will be appointedÂ jointlyÂ on the research track in the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern CaliforniaÂ (USC)Â andÂ the Southern California Clinical and Translational Research Institute as part of aÂ collaborativeÂ group of biostatisticians in the Biostatistics Core. The candidate should have broad biostatistics expertise in biomedical research, particularly related to theÂ design and data analysisÂ of human subjectsÂ research and clinical trials. The candidate also will be expected toÂ supervise biostatistics activitiesÂ of Core staffÂ withÂ basic scientistsÂ in experimental design, powerÂ andÂ dataÂ analyses.Â The successful candidate should have state-of-the art data analytical skills andÂ leadership skills toÂ superviseMasters and PhD level staff performingÂ a wide range of statistical analyses for a priori hypothesis testing and data mining. Superior writing skills to work with investigators on grant applicationsÂ and manuscriptsÂ isÂ required. The candidate will have opportunities to develop investigator training courses in statistical methods to complement activities atÂ USC,Â supporting investigators in the design of basic and applied research studies.
Minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. degree, at leastÂ 3Â years of postdoctoral experience withÂ advanced biostatisticsmethods,Â experience working in a biostatistics core at an academic institution,Â andÂ superb written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidateÂ alsoÂ willÂ have the opportunity topursueher orÂ his research interests, typically through collaboration with other faculty members at CHLA and USC.Â CandidatesÂ should have expertise in conducting sophisticated regression models, factor analysis, cluster and discriminant function analyses, growth curve analyses, repeated measures analyses, mediation, structural equation modeling, advanced methods for controlling Type I error, andÂ advanced skillsÂ for graphically representing findings from those analyses.Â Desirable but not mandatory skills include: clinical trials management, familiarityÂ with machine learning and deep learning methods, as well as statistical analysis of imaging data.
