Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) and BJC Healthcare (BJC) are forming a new joint venture to establish multiple urgent care centers in the greater St. Louis area in the next year.� The long-term goal is to grow patient friendly, efficient, high quality services swiftly throughout the region to become a leader in the provision of urgent care services. The Executive Director will have primary responsibility for the financial, personnel, systems, facilities, and operational activities of all urgent care services on behalf of WU/BJC’s new joint venture, and will dedicate significant time in the field as well as with corporate services and business support units. The Executive Director will collaborate with the FPP and BJC leadership to identify future direction for urgent care growth and services.� Develops action, operational and business plans to meet established goals. Manages start-up of multiple urgent care sites across the metropolitan St. Louis region including site selection, financial analysis, hiring, and oversight of daily operations across all sites. The Executive Director reports jointly to the Chief Executive Officer of Washington University Physicians Faculty Practice Plan and to a board for the new urgent care corporate structure.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees all Urgent Care Services workforce, and in collaboration with key managers, insures staff are well-trained, engaged, service oriented, and productive. Ensures an appropriate organizational structure to drive operational performance, unit profitability and patient attraction, retention and satisfaction.
Recruits and retains a talented clinical team with emergency/critical care (primary care and urgent care) skills
Builds a service orientated clinical and operational team that results in extraordinary patient satisfaction and loyalty
Develops and maintains a scalable infrastructure and ensures business processes supports expansion in both MO and IL
Directs all Urgent Care Services business functions such as human resources, planning, finance, accounting, revenue cycle, information systems, and purchasing. Develops, measures and manages metrics in support of operational goals.
Manages financial reporting, operational reporting, and benchmark analysis; communicates results for all Urgent Care Services to management and executive leadership.
Insures long-term financial stability and growth of Urgent Care Services while developing strategies for revenue enhancements and process improvement – including the use of virtual strategies as appropriate.
In collaboration with FPP/BJC, leads development and implementation of communication and marketing plans to advertise/promote Urgent Care Services, physicians, and locations.
Works with FPP/BJC real estate and design shared services
Oversees revenue cycle operations and works collaboratively to optimize patient pre-arrival, reception, charge capture, billing, and collection operations; establishes policies, procedures, and standards to optimize reimbursements.
Recommends and develops strategies for general cost control and revenue enhancements
Works with FPP/BJC shared services to leverage in place services
Plans/directs business functions with medical/nursing leadership for clinic operations.
Negotiates/recommends business aspects of contractual relationships in coordination with FPP/BJC, providing systems/procedures to implement contract administration.
Serves as business owner of EPIC Urgent Care module implementation and optimization.
Develops annual business plan including short and long term goals and objectives which:
includes a multiyear financial forecast based on key objectives
considers and addresses the financial impacts of new initiatives as well as those associated with internal and external trends and changing regulations (e.g., reimbursement changes)
outlines operational plans
ensures long-term, fundamental financial stability and growth of the services
Plans future utilization of existing facilities and recommends allocation and use of new and remodeled space or new service locations.� Assesses financial impact, cost benefits, tradeoffs and long-range implications of space decisions.
Evaluates and develops next-phase growth plans.
Functions as primary representative for new joint venture for Urgent Care Services and participates as a member on various committees and activities on both a routine and ad hoc basis.� Represents the new Urgent Care Services joint venture in a positive and professional manner.
A bachelor's degree in healthcare or business management or a related field is required as is 10 years of business management experience in an urgent care setting or physician practice, with knowledge of clinical service operations.
Preferred qualifications include an MBA/MHA or related advanced degree as well as current knowledge of general medical business administration practices and ability to develop new programs/start-up practices with extensive working knowledge of current information business systems.
Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
Successful track record working with health system partners.
Successful track record of building a successful business, assembling qualified teams and leading in a complex environment.
