We are looking for a RA to help investigate the genetic causes in various bone marrow failure disorders . Must be self-motivate d and willing to troubleshoot and accept challenges. Most important is a candidate with curiosity, work ethic, organization, ability to learn new techniques, and an excellent track record in college. We will teach the biochemical, molecular and cellular approaches. Ideal position for a recent college graduate interested in preparing for grad or med school. Must be an enthusiastic learner, able to work in a team and independently.
This Research Assistant will be responsible for:
Performing many techniques in cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemistry, including RNA/DNA sequencing, cloning, protein expression and purification, characterization of novel antibodies, immunoblotting, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and bioinformatics.
Performing a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Assisting in troubleshooting procedures.
Performing the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study: Maintaining records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed. Maintaining equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Sterilizing and cleaning glassware, preparing media and other materials using appropriate procedures. Inventorying supplies, alerting supervisor to needed supplies, or mixes standard reagents. Processing order for supplies and/or animals.
Attending courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials.
Conducting literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I. Attending courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
Contributing to the team within and between departments and organizations.
To qualify, you must have:
The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience in basic laboratory techniques is preferred.
Prior research experience is preferred.
The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
A 2 year commitment is required.
