Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Advancement will lead a cohort of fundraising programs that are critical to achieving university priorities. The AVP will set and oversee goals and strategies for at least one College within the university and at least one distinct program (ex. Athletics fundraising, Family Philanthropy Program, Libraries). The portfolio determination will be based on the AVP's experience and areas of expertise. The development potential of these units is considerable. By working collaboratively within the Northeastern Advancement network and throughout the university, the AVP has an exciting opportunity to lead and to deliver unprecedented success in terms of development activity and philanthropic dollars. The AVP must be a dynamic and self-motivated leader with an extensive senior-level professional background in results-oriented relationship management and proven strategic fundraising abilities.
Specific responsibilities include:
Supervising assigned college and program teams in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and principal gifts.
Creating and delivering an ambitious strategic plan that supports the university's global mission, inspires new approaches, and catalyzes collaboration.
Coaching and mentoring staff in support of professional development, best practices, and collective performance goals.
Providing advice and support to the VP and other senior staff in crafting and implementing an Advancement vision that takes Northeastern to the next level of excellence.
Managing a select portfolio of 50-75 prospects and soliciting and closing gifts at the major and principal gifts level.
Other significant duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The AVP must possess the capacity for recognizing latent fundraising opportunities and for building working collaborations which stand to deliver more than their component parts. They will have a track record of accomplishment managing development professionals, interacting with senior academic officers/faculty, and executing the complete cycle of major and principal gift casesfrom identification to close/stewardship.
Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred. Ten plus (10+) years of relevant senior experience required; familiarity or experience with Northeastern of added benefit.
Demonstrated capacity for partnering with internal university stakeholders and external constituents, including alumni, parents, friends, and organizations.
Strong management, mentoring, and coaching skills.
Collaborative leadership, outstanding communication skills, demonstrated commitment to teamwork.
Evidence of entrepreneurial and innovative approaches.
Ability to travel as needed including overnight(s) and weekends.
