Responsibilities: The Director, Affinity and Domestic Engagement reports to the Senior Director of Engagement Initiatives and is responsible for developing an engagement strategy focusing on multifaceted engagement platforms that will connect and inform a diverse community of alumni, parents, students, and key stakeholders across a variety of alumni affinities and the domestic communities. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively and independently utilizing innovative and creative thinking in developing and implementing a long-term strategic plan that will ultimately aid in creating a stronger and more engaged alumni community.
The Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement is a key team member who will focus on: (1) Creating a value-driven engagement strategy designed to inspire alumni, parents, and students to continue their connection to their alma mater as philanthropists, ambassadors, lifelong learners, and key stakeholders. (2) Implementing a comprehensive alumni volunteer model designed to train, support, and steward volunteers across all programs. (3) Strengthening alumni relationships and identifying key alumni who can help inform engagement strategy and serve as university ambassadors. (4) Evaluating current affinity and domestic community programs to determine effectiveness and providing oversight to the integration of innovative program development. (5) Leading the strategic vision for our continued growth resulting in high impact engagement opportunities focused around alumni affinities and domestic activity; a strong focus will be on the New England area. (6) Developing areas of opportunity for alumni to expand and capitalize upon the power of their network and increase affinity between alumni and the university. (7) Collaborate with Alumni Relations team members to enhance the existing relationships with regional campuses by developing and executing effective plans to establish, launch, and sustain new engagement opportunities. (8) Leading team members in the creation of successful events and programs in conjunction with university and division goals, from concept to post-event, within a given budget, and in a fiscally responsible manner while managing both internal and external relationships and the workflow of various OAR team members. (9) In conjunction with the OAR's Marketing and Communications team, developing and implementing effective communication templates, content, and policies, while managing expectations that will aid in maximizing the department's outreach to the alumni community. (10) Effectively managing and developing a team of four professionals.
The Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement will be able to represent the university, the Advancement division and the Office of Alumni Relations in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. As a member of the Advancement Division it is essential for the Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement to understand and support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community.
Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. Domestic travel and a flexible schedule are required. Other duties as assigned, including assisting at several general events throughout the year.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Six to eight (6-8) years of experience is required in a combination of alumni relations/advancement, strategic development and planning, relationship management and producing programs and events. Two to three (2-3) years of supervisory management experience required. Experience working in higher education a plus. Strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills; excellent leadership, management, negotiation, analytic, information-gathering, organizational, communications (written and oral), and computer skills; Extreme attention to detail; Volunteer management with strong relationship building skills; High level of self-confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, self-motivation, and energy to undertake diverse responsibilities.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time; Proven ability to interact with many constituencies, while building strong relationships and partnerships, with a keen emphasis on customer-service. Public speaking ability is a key success factor for this position.
