Facilities and Property Management (FPM) proudly takes responsibility for nine residential buildings on the Portland State University campus. The Housing Trades/Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled work primarily related to apartment turnover maintenance by assisting journey level trades people as well as performing work independently by prioritizing and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
Primary tasks for this Trades/Maintenance Worker 1 position include maintenance and repair on water, ventilating, locking, air conditioning and heating systems, refrigeration units and boilers, generators, electric and gas powered motors, fan units, pumps and tools such as drill presses, bench saws, appliances, life-safety equipment, windows, doors, and locks. Tasks performed independently and along with painters include wall prep, applying a variety of paints, and cleaning tools. The Trades/Maintenance Worker 1 builds relationships with residents through regular interactions during daily building inspections.
FPM staff maintains high performance and customer service standards through ongoing professional development. In addition to the standard work schedule, working hours will include occasional weekends and evenings through participation in the on-call rotation program.
Ability to perform in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills and sensitivity to student schedules.
Ability to share rotation with the on-call pager.
Familiarity with work order database management systems.
Ability to write clearly and precisely.
Three years' experience maintaining and repairing equipment.
Three years' experience prioritizing daily work load.
Successful completion of a background check.
Three years’ experience in a multifamily residential environment, preferably in a university setting.
Experience maintaining university residence halls.
Possession of a valid state issued Drivers License.
