About the Opportunity: Performs basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods. Assists the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Maintains the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.
Research in computational modeling of fracture using state-of-the-art phase-field methods with emphasis on studying the mechanical stability of next-generation battery materials and fatigue crack growth. Research will include development of theoretical models and parallel codes and their implementation using message passing interface or/and cuda-enabled graphic processing units.
Responsibilities: Develop theoretical models and computational implementations.
Write research papers and prepare presentations at conferences.
Interact with other research groups and research sponsors to coordinate collaborations.
Assist in supervision of graduate students.
Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent; be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
Preferred Qualifications: Must have a PhD or Doctoral Degree in a Science or Engineering field related to computational fracture mechanics and demonstrated capability for independent research.
