Data & Service Manager, Digital Library of the Middle East

This is a three year, fixed-term position.
The Digital Library of the Middle East (DLME) project is an international effort, gathering digital resources of Middle East and North African (MENA) material from providers around the world. This initiative is establishing the first seamlessly interoperable, large-scale digital library of cultural artifacts from the region. Working in the Stanford Libraries' Digital Library Systems & Services unit, the Data & Service Manager is a member of an international, inter-institutional team. S/he coordinates ongoing DLME data acquisition, data management, and day-to-day operations of the DLME service, including providing technical support for digital library access tools to providers and end users. Working within the curatorial, operational and policy framework established by DLME's governance and advisory groups, s/he conducts outreach to potential providers and stakeholders, plays a significant curatorial role soliciting data and putting data agreements into place, and does extensive data transformation and enrichment. S/he also serves as the product owner during development cycles, working with software engineering teams on enhancements and maintenance. International travel is expected.
The Data Manager may also support similar data management work on other Stanford project initiatives.
Manage week-to-week contact with data providers from other libraries, archives and museums around the world; support the curatorial and software engineering teams with project coordination support.
For each data source, review project plans and proposals, and work with management to develop project objectives; identify project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project; calculate time frames and sequence the stages of the project.
Oversee, coordinate, and perform data acquisition, ingest, indexing and QA from various sources, with support from the Technical Project Manager and software engineering team.
Understand business processes and translate into system solutions.
Assist with feasibility studies of enhancement requests, identifying options and recommending an IT solution.
Create business requirements, including business rules, quality attributes, performance goals, external interfaces and constraints.
Collaborate with the business partners and test team to create and execute system test plans, user-acceptance testing and rollout.
Assist the development team to develop technical specifications.
Conduct in-depth analysis to solve problems, identifying gaps and issues that minimize system modification and maintenance; make recommendations, including discovering new approaches or applications.
Serve as a business owner, product manager, or other supporting roles as needed in similar project initiatives to reflect and represent functional and technical needs of users. * - Other duties may also be assigned
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience with both process and data modeling.
Demonstrated experience with fit/gap analysis.
Understanding of relational database concepts.
Strong understanding of the components of web applications.
Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with minimum direction.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to establish effective, ongoing relationships with clients, staff and management.
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure in high stress situations.
Demonstrated ability to program or script.
Other Relevant Experience May Include:
Proficiency in Arabic (written and/or spoken)
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally stand/walk, use a telephone.
