Job Summary The Senior Director of the Center for Academic Success is responsible for the oversight of academic engagement, support, and success of students outside the classroom. The Senior Director coordinates all services provided by the Center for Academic Success and serves as a liaison between academics and student life, working closely with faculty and academic leadership as the chair of the academic standing committee and member of other important faculty committees. The Senior Director also oversees the conduct process for academic honesty violations, collaborating closely with academic leadership. The Senior Director plays a key role in identifying and supporting students who experience difficulties that affect them academically and is an active member of our students of concern committee.
Directly supervises areas of disability support services, tutoring services, learning support, and transition & completion support for all students.
Oversees planning, development, and evaluation of academic support services for all university students.
Oversees annual budget and prepares periodic and annual reports.
Supports students experiencing academic difficulties, coordinating specific outreach to determine at-risk students including progress reports and midterm grades.
Serves as member of the Concern, Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team. Provides and receives referrals regarding students struggling academically. Works directly with admissions staff members to determine additional students of academic concern.
Sends official notifications to faculty and staff regarding student absences due to problems.
Works directly with the Transitions and Completion Coordinator, processes and approves (as appropriate) medical withdrawals and related requests for readmission.
Serves as a member of the EAB Navigate implementation team, Susquehanna's academic advising software.
Serves as chair of Academic Standing Committee, managing academic policies and reviewing student grades at the end of each semester and making decisions regarding the status of each student.
Oversees Academic Dishonesty cases, collaborating closely with faculty and academic deans and providing education to students about academic honesty.
Education Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, organizational leadership, or related field required.
Experience Seven years of experience with a history of increasing levels of responsibility in academic support or higher education administration, is required. Experience or working knowledge of student disability services and supporting students from diverse identity groups is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of student development theory and effective academic support practices for students from diverse identity groups and students with disabilities. Skilled at written and verbal communication, especially negotiating difficult situations with a variety of constituencies. Ability to set priorities and supervise staff members; ability to maintain confidentiality, attention to detail, and professional interactions; work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Physical Demand Position requires the ability to move about the campus, sometimes frequently throughout the work day, but also the ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to give and to receive instruction. Position requires the ability to communicate synchronously in person and by phone and asynchronously via email and other electronic means. Position requires the ability to read printed and handwritten text on paper, dry-erase boards, and computer monitors. Working conditions are primarily indoor. This position requires occasional night and weekend hours.
