Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse (Oncology Nurse Education Specialist), for the Nursing Department in the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Advanced nursing practice is the utilization of professional nursing knowledge. The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) will serve as an advanced practice professional in an expanded role. This position will report to the Associate Director of Nursing and Patient Education and will be responsible for facilitating staff education through the development and implementation of programs at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Additionally, this role will serve to support the day-to-day clinical operations of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey through assisting with the identification, development and management of projects to support improvements in the delivery of patient care. The role of the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) serves to enhance the quality of care delivered to oncology patients. There are several components to the role, including that of expert practitioner, educator, consultant and researcher. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of patients and applying relevant treatment approaches for pediatric (0-17 years), adult (18-64 years), and geriatric (65+ years) patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Functions as a clinical resource and mentor to staff regarding care of the oncology patient.
Assists in the development, implementation and utilization of policies, procedures and standards set forth by the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Provides the Cancer Institute of New Jersey staff development through the design, implementation and evaluation of formal and informal educational programs.
Coordinates and participates in the delivery of educational activities for the nursing and clinical support staff at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Network. Assesses programmatic needs, develops, implements and monitors educational programs. Acts as a resource and teacher for other members of the healthcare team.
Assists in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of nursing staff orientation programs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of a Masters' Degree.
Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority in the State of New Jersey.
Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with an Oncology Specialization required, if an Oncology Specialization is not present, the Oncology Specialization must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
At least two (2) years of nursing experience in the Oncology specialty area in a hospital or clinic setting, preferably in an Advanced Practice role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrates leadership skills.
Nursing management experience.
