Summary of Duties:
The Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility (CMIF) is the biomedical confocal and electron microscopy (EM) core facility serving over 150 faculty labs per year at The Ohio State University. This dynamic research facility is seeking a Electron Microscopist to perform the following duties: to operate and train users on FEI scanning and transmission electron microscopes, to perform sample preparation and ultra-thin sectioning on a wide variety of biological and polymer samples; to develop protocols for specimen preparation and sample observation using electron microscopes; to provide technical assistance, education and consultation opportunities to researchers on current research methods; supervise maintenance of lab equipment; help maintain laboratory and research databases for annual reporting. In addition, the microscopist will be expected to keep current with advances in specimen preparation and imaging techniques and periodically participate in workshops for training purposes and to showcase EM capabilities at the facility. Some travel for training and conference participation is required.

Specialized training in use of TEM and SEM instruments, analytical instrumentation & electronic equipment required; experience with sample processing for a wide variety of biological samples for TEM and SEM observation required, computer skills required; training/teaching experience required. Interaction with a wide variety of users from campus as well as external institutions and private companies requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Doctorate in general biology or equivalent education/experience is desired; Considerable experience in biological/health science research lab with significant emphasis on light and electron microscopy techniques is preferred. Desired experience with customer service; cryo-ultramicrotomy and cryo-electron microscopy. Knowledge of immunocytochemistry methods & light and confocal microscopes is desirable. Target Salary: $58,000.00 - $65,000.00 Annually
